Islamic Boarding School is one of the oldest religious-based educational institutions in Indonesia. At the beginning of its establishment, pesantren was still traditional and only aimed to study religious knowledge but over time and the changing times that occurred, science developed as well as in the field of Islamic Boarding School education. This Islamic Boarding School education is useful in helping students to remain balanced, not only in the theoretical sciences but also in receiving religious knowledge and the formation of good character. Currently, interest in boarding schools is increasing, but in the city of Medan itself, the number is still small, and the location of boarding schools in Medan is in a crowded area, so the effectiveness of learning in the area is slightly disturbed. Besides that, most students who live in boarding schools come from outside the city, so over time it will cause feelings of loneliness and increased stress, which can be triggered by environmental conditions. For this reason, a comfortable environment is needed. Applying the principles of green architecture to boarding school buildings can have a variety of positive influences in terms of the physical and social environment because the use of green plants can also help people who see them feel calm. The application of green architecture not only creates environmentally friendly buildings but also becomes a means of forming environmental awareness and sustainability among the boarding school community and the surrounding community.en_US
