The University of North Sumatera (USU) has become one of the
leading educational institutions in Indonesia, attracting students from
various regions to pursue quality higher education. The increase in
student interest that continues to increase every year demands the
expansion of adequate accommodation facilities. This design
focuses on the development of a female student dormitory at USU
with a quantitative increase in the number of rooms. A tropical
architecture approach is applied to address functional and
environmental considerations in the design process. Through
analysis of student population trends and accommodation
preferences, this study aims to propose an optimized dormitory
layout to improve occupancy conditions and support the increasing
number of students enrolling. The findings contribute to sustainable
campus development and provide practical guidance for future
infrastructure projects in educational settings.
