Urban Park in Medan City with Cotemporary Architecture Approach
Abstract
In the development of a city, green open space is one of the most important aspects, where this area is an inseparable part. City parks are one
of the image shapers of a city and also as carbon dioxide absorption areas and fresh air producers. The development of urban community habits
after the pandemic began to change from the majority of indoor activities to more outdoor activities such as working in green open areas. Postpandemic
people are starting to realize how important green open areas are. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on the development of green
open areas that are friendly to the city community. Medan City is the third largest city in Indonesia after Jakarta and Surabaya. In addition,
Medan is also the capital of North Sumatra province. Medan is one of the most
polluted city in Indonesia. City development with development continues to be encouraged. The direction of development and growth of Medan
City is quite significant in the last few years. The development is caused by several factors that influence and support it. Increased development
in urban areas and also the growth of urban communities are the dynamics found in urban life.
This has both positive and negative impacts. From an economic and technological point of view, the city will experience progress in the
economic and technological fields, but from another point of view there is a loss of green open land in the city which results in ecological
damage. Urban parks have a key factor in providing solutions to the ecological problems of the city and can improve the quality of life of urban
communities. So Therefore, it is necessary to plan and design a good urban forest with a contemporary architectural approach.
Where this approach is sought to be able to produce an area that is adaptive to all groups, be it children, adolescents, parents and the elderly.
Where this city park is expected to become a new place for the city community to do activities in green open areas.
