Identifikasi Perkembangan Judi Online: Motif Pemuda Memilih Bekerja sebagai Admin Judi di Kamboja
Identification of the Development of Online Gambling: The Motives of Young People Working as Online Gambling Admins in Cambodia
Abstract
This study aims to identify the development of online gambling in Cambodia and the motives of young Indonesians who choose to work as online gambling admins in the country. This phenomenon is interesting because, despite the legal and social risks associated with this job, many young Indonesians choose to engage in it due to the high salary offers and various other benefits. This research employs a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and participatory observation in several areas where young people work as online gambling admins in Cambodia. The results of the study show that the primary motivation for young people to work in the online gambling industry is economic, with higher salaries compared to jobs in Indonesia. However, aside from economic factors, social influences such as the need to meet family expectations, the desire to improve social status, and supporting social networks also play an important role in their decision-making. This job is viewed as an opportunity to improve their standard of living and gain recognition in their communities. This research provides a deeper understanding of the motivations and social dynamics influencing young Indonesians' decisions to work in the online gambling industry, as well as the impact on their social and economic lives.
