dc.description.abstract | Diabetes Melittus (DM) can cause demage to the testicular structure. The content of secondary metabolites found in areca nut can be used as an antidiabetic agent. But information on the safety of areca nut ethanol extract for diabetic rat testes needs to be studied. The purpose of this research is to determine and analyze the effect of areca nut ethanol extract on the morphology and histology of alloxan induced rat testis. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method consisting of 6 treatments and 4 replication, normal control, alloxan control, treatment with areca nut ethanol extract doses of 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg BW and treatment of metformin 45 mg/kg BW given for 25 days. Then the rats were dissected to take the testes and morphological observations were made, followed by making testicular histology preparations using the paraffin method and HE staining. The results of this research showed that the administration of ethanol extract of areca nut up to a dose of 300 mg/kg BW was safe for the testis, even able to increase the weight of the testis to 1,31 g, size of testis to 2,42 cm, the diameter of seminiferous tubules 205,97 μm, thickness of the germinal epithelium of seminiferous tubules 56,12 μm, the number of Leydig cells 37,27 cells, the number of Sertoli cells 17,1 cells, the number of spermatogonium, spermatocytes spermatids cells 50,22, 53,85 and 67,97 cells and spermatogenesis index 57,22% significantly (p<0,05). | en_US |
