Pengaruh Variasi Media Pendingin Pengelasan Shield Metal Arch Welding terhadap Kekuatan Tarik, Kekerasan dan Struktur Mikro pada Sambungan Las Baja Material ASTM A-36
The Effect of Variations in Welding Cooling Media Shield Metal Arch Welding on the Tensile Strength, Hardness and Micro Structure of ASTM A-36 Steel Welding Joints
Abstract
In the aspect of the shipbuilding industry, in Indonesia there are many shortcomings in ship design and
target requirements, so a more efficient manufacturing process is needed in terms of the time needed to
build ships. This research discusses the comparison of the strength of SMAW welded joints with ASTM
A36 steel material against used SAE 40 oil, water and air cooling media in tensile tests, Brinell hardness
and microstructure tests. This research was carried out with the aim of finding out the hardness value in
SMAW welding of welded joints, the tensile strength value in the SMAW welding method with
variations in SAE 40 Oil, Water, Air and Row cooling (without treatment), microstructure in SAE 40
Oil, Water cooling variations. and Air, as well as Porosity and welding defects using penetrant testing
fluid. After testing, variations in cooling media have a significant influence on the hardness value of
SMAW welded joints on ASTM A-36 material, tensile tests show that the cooling medium influences
the tensile strength of welded joints, microstructure observations show significant differences in the
microstructure produced by each cooling media, and the use of cooling media also influence the number
and type of welding defects that occur.
