Design Performance Analysis on a Steam Turbine with a Rate of 150Kg/H Using Ansys Software
Abstract
Energy is a very important element in the effort to increase the quantity of
people's lives. Along with increasing the standard of living or quantity of society, the
need for energy is very necessary, nowadays energy consumption is directly related to
the level of quantity of population life and the degree of industrialization of a country.
One of the most widely used energy by humans in everyday life is electrical energy,
because the energy source is very effective or efficient to be converted into other forms
of energy such as a power plant, namely a steam generator. (Pitrandjalisari & Putra,
2013) One type is a steam turbine, where steam turbines are included in the group of
aircraft converting steam potential energy into mechanical energy on the steam
turbine shaft. The steam turbine shaft directly or with the help of reduction gears is
connected to the driven mechanism. Steam turbines can be used in various fields of
industry, transportation, lighting, and for electricity generation. The electrical energy
contained in the houses of the people around the palm oil mill has a capacity per house
of 500 watts. The steam turbine is used as a working fluid, so as to produce fuel such
as in palm oil mills, the fuel in the steam turbine is to generate a large amount of steam
power, so that the steam turbine distributes to 3 parts such as through the pipes of
stew, oil and press where it is used for processing. But before being utilized for the
processing process, it first serves to turn on the electrical panels driven by the electric
generator so that the electric generator rotates the steam turbine. This test method is
a method that is most often used in solving a problem that occurs in the engineering
world. The experimental results obtained in the future are able to generate data that
will be used as a basis for data on the joint combustion method to overcome the
problem of carbon emissions in steam power plants. The fuel used in this research is
kerosene. From the research conducted on the impulse blade design with a rate of 150
Kg / hour, the following conclusions can be obtained: - Analysis of the performance of
steam turbine blades using the ANSYS Simulation application has several simulation
results, namely the graph of the force generated by the turbine (close to 0.002 N), the
graph of the moment generated by the turbine (close to 0.007 Nm), and the 2-
dimensional and 3-dimensional turbine speed contours (highest 1.51 m/s and lowest
0.927 m/s) - Calculation of the efficiency obtained must obtain parameters such as
Advance Ratio, Thrust Coefficient (Force), Torque Coefficient (moment). The
efficiency obtained by the turbine blade is 26.47%.
