dc.description.abstract | The issue of poverty among persons with disabilities is one that requires special attention, especially in Medan City. Persons with disabilities often face various barriers, both in terms of accessibility, discrimination, and limited employment opportunities available. To overcome these problems, the Medan City Manpower Office initiated a Job Fair program specifically designed to support persons with disabilities in obtaining employment that suits their abilities, but the participation of companies in providing vacancies for persons with disabilities is still low with only 3.35% of the total vacancies reserved for them.
The research method used in this study is qualitative with a case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The data was analyzed qualitatively using strategy indicators from Jack Koteen (1997) in Salusu (2006: 104-105) which includes types of strategies namely Corporate Strategy (Organizational strategy), Program Strategy (Program strategy), Resources Support Strategy (Resource Support Strategy), Institutional Strategy (Institutional Strategy).
The results of this study indicate that the Job Fair program strategy organized by the Medan City Manpower Office has had a positive impact in supporting persons with disabilities to get better employment opportunities. The Job Fair program held in 2023 succeeded in creating 36 job opportunities for people with disabilities in various sectors such as hospitality and retail. In 2023, the Job Fair in Medan Deli offered 298 vacancies including 10 positions specifically for people with disabilities from the Alfamidi company. Nevertheless, there are still obstacles such as accessibility of locations and information that has not covered all circles, low understanding among companies about the potential of people with disabilities, many people with disabilities have difficulty in accessing education and training that is relevant to the needs of the labor market. | en_US |
