An Analysis of Abuse In Laurie Halse Anderson’s Novel Speak and Eka Kurniawan’s Novel Cantik Itu Luka: a Comparative Literature Analysis

Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Abuse in Laurie Halse Anderson’s Novel Speak and Eka Kurniawan’s novel Cantik itu Luka: A Comparative Literature Analysis”.This thesis using comparative literature analysis which have the same motif. In thisthesis the writer uses two novel which from different country. Speak from American and Cantikitu Luka from Indonesia. The purpose of this thesis is to find out and analyze abuse happened on woman andthe similarities and differences both of the novels. This thesis used theory of Comparative Literature to see abuse and similarities and difference both of the novels. The writer used descriptive qualitative method that the data is from quotation in the novel. The writer found the types of abuse can do by someone relation with us. Moreover, the writer used the library research so that can be found. The result of this thesis the similarities of two novels can found as the same motif, the stories of the novel tells about abuse and the differences of abuse in the novel Speak is done by Melinda‟s senior his name Andy Evan. In the other hand, in novel Cantik itu Luka was done by customer of Dewi Ayu, his name Shodancho.

Skripsi in berjudul” “An Analysis of Abuse in Laurie Halse Anderson’s Novel Speak and Eka Kurniawan’s novel Cantik itu Luka: A Comparative Literature Analysis”. Skripsi ini menggunakan analisis sastra bandingan yang mana memiliki motif yang sama. Didalam skripsi ini, penulis menggunakan dua novel dari dua Negara yang berbeda Speak dari Amerika dan Cantik itu Luka dari Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan menemukan dan menganalisis kekerasan dan persamaan dan perbedaan yang terjadi dikedua novel tersebut. Skripsi ini menggunakan teori dari sastra bandingan untuk melihat kekerasan dan persamaan dan perbedaan dari nove tersebut. Penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dan datanya didapatkan dari kutipan novel. Penulis mendapatkan jenis-jenis kekerasan dapat dilakukan oleh orang terdekat. Selain itu, penulis menggunakan penelitian kepustakaan. Hasil dari penelitian ini persamaannya dari kedua novel memiliki motif yang sama, novel tersebut menceritakan tentang kekerasan dan perbedaannya di novel Speak dilakukan oleh senior Melinda namanya Andy Evan. Sebaliknya, di novel Cantik itu Luka dilakukan oleh pelanggan Dewi Ayu namanya Shodancho.
