Analysis of the Effect of Pouring Temperature on Mechanical Properties and Microstructure Characteristics of Honda Revo Connecting Rod Made of Al-Cu-Mg Using Sand Casting Method
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of pouring temperature variations on the
mechanical properties and microstructure of connecting rods made of Al-Cu-Mg,
produced using the sand casting method. The process was conducted to improve the
quality of casting results by varying the pouring temperature at 700°C, 750°C, and
800°C. Mechanical properties were tested through tensile, impact, bending, and
hardness tests, while microstructural analysis was carried out using metallographic
methods. The results showed that variations in pouring temperature significantly
affected the mechanical properties and microstructure of the material. A pouring
temperature of 750°C yielded the best mechanical properties with maximum tensile
strength and optimal hardness, while 800°C tended to cause greater porosity in the
microstructure. The material's microstructure also exhibited a significant influence of
temperature variation on phase distribution and grain size. This research provides
new insights into optimizing casting parameters to produce Al-Cu-Mg materials that
are strong, corrosion-resistant, and lightweight, making them highly relevant for
automotive applications.
