Abstract

The economic growth of Medan City which is increasingly advanced has made the flow of community activities centered in the middle of the city. This is influenced by the increasing number of jobs in the city which moves the population of suburban and rural areas to the city center increasing. The population growth rate and the need for housing are also getting higher following these conditions. People who have high mobility prefer a house that is close to the workplace/office. However, land for housing in the middle of the city is increasingly limited because it is dominated by high-density residential zones. Various typical urban environmental problems cannot be avoided. Of Course it can affects the quality of the environment around the residence. The Townhouse is designed with a Green Roof concept to answer the user's needs for residential housing and typical urban environmental problems. The Townhouse is designed on an area that is not too large but has supporting facilities in it by using a Green Roof that can minimize various environmental problems and another issues in high density area. Through literature studies and comparative studies of similar projects and themes, the Townhouse with the Green Roof concept is expected to be a solution for people who have high mobility who need a house to live close to their workplaces and homes that can improve the quality of the environment. considering that a Townhouse with a Green Roof concept has never existed in Medan City.
