    Abstract
Hypertension is a global health problem and is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Risk factors for hypertension include old age, genetic factors, and unhealthy lifestyles such as consuming foods high in salt, lack of physical activity, and excessive alcohol consumption. The aim of the research is the relationship between a healthy lifestyle and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly in the Binjai Estate Community Health Center working area in 2024. This type of research is a cross sectional analytical study. The total research sample was 100 patients using accidental sampling technique. Univariate data was analyzed descriptively and bivariate data was analyzed using the chi square test. The results of the study showed that the prevalence of hypertension was high among the elderly at the Binjai Estate Community Health Center, with (53%) experiencing grade I hypertension and (47%) grade II. The highest proportion of hypertension sufferers are elderly people aged less than 75 years (87%), consuming varied foods every day 60%, salt consumption is quite high (62%), Almost all respondents have a light level of physical activity (PAL between 1.40 and 1.69) (99 %), smokers, with the majority consuming less than 10 cigarettes per day (30%), consuming alcohol (15%). There was no relationship between age (p=0.508), gender (p=0.430), diet (p=0.339), physical activity (0.470), smoking (p=0.631), alcohol consumption (p=0.087) and the incidence of hypertension in the elderly at the Binjai Estate Community Health Center. Community health centers are advised to provide intensive and targeted education regarding the importance of a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and avoiding excessive consumption of cigarettes and alcohol. This education can help increase awareness and knowledge of the elderly about how their lifestyle can affect the risk of hypertension.
