E is an economic sector with small scale and limited capital. MSMEs have an important role in the economy, creating jobs, driving economic growth, and increasing people's income. Each MSME has unique design needs according to the type of business, target market, and business goals. Therefore, how to design an MSME building that can respond to the specific needs of MSMEs, such as production space, goods storage, selling areas, and efficient work areas as well as an environment that is conducive to the growth and development of MSMEs using a Tropical Architecture approach. This report presents integrated design data that provides optimal understanding and assists the design process. The design method includes information gathering, analysis of needs and objectives, design conceptualization, preliminary design, detailed design, preparation for construction, and the construction stage. Some of the analyzes carried out to support the needs in designing are site analysis, circulation analysis, view analysis, and space requirements analysis. The design concept is the basis for the development of the overall design, covering various aspects such as form, function, layout, materials, colors and the atmosphere of the space in accordance with the tropical architectural theme. The results of the design of the building are divided into 2, namely the UMKM Square Building which consists of 4 floors and the Convention Hall Building which consists of 2 floors. The UMKM Square building has a total building area of 8496 m² and the Convention Hall building has a total area of 2880 m², the UMKM Building serves as the MSME center, Co-Working Space, Cinema and Food Court. By using the Tropical Architecture theme, the UMKM Square Building can create a comfortable, energy efficient and integrated environment with the surrounding environment. The use of natural ventilation, natural lighting and attention to green aspects will ensure optimal conditions for MSME activities in the building. The design of the UMKM Square Building at the University of North Sumatra (USU) with a tropical architectural approach also has an impact on local identity and campus image.en_US
