dc.description.abstract | One of the biomasses wastes that has the potential to be utilised as activated charcoal is sugar palm bunches (Arenga longipes Mogea). In this research of activated charcoal was made from the pyrolysis process of sugar palm bunch waste with physical activation. The aims of this research were to evaluate the characteristics of activated charcoal from various activation temperatures and times. Activation of activated charcoal was carried out at temperatures of 575⁰C for 40 minutes, 575⁰C for 60 minutes, 625⁰C for 40 minutes and 625⁰C for 60 minutes. Based on the result, the yield of activated charcoal ranged from 74.94-95.56%; moisture content ranged from 1.55-8.09%; ash content ranged from 6.33-9.96%; volatile matter ranged from 0.70-1.49%; fixed carbon ranged from 83.62-87.36% and iodine absorbance ranged from 810.57-944.44mg/g. Statistically, temperature and time treatments had significant effects on yield, moisture content and ash content. After being evaluated, all values produced were in accordance with the quality standards of SNI 06-3730-1995. | en_US |
