This final project investigates the integration of contemporary vernacular architecture in the design of cottages and recreational facilities, aiming to incorporate the local cultures present at the design location, namely Malay and Karo cultures, with a more modern visual appeal. The main objective is to develop tourism and enhance the existing tourism sector at the design location. The research methods used by the author include observation and secondary data, encompassing direct surveys to the design location and literature studies from reliable sources. The architectural design results show that the use of contemporary vernacular architecture not only employs more modern materials and technology but also transforms mass forms into more modern shapes. The building designs in the design area are characterized by mass form adaptations derived from vernacular Malay and Karo roof shapes and are supported by contemporary recreational facilities. The contribution and added value of this architectural design report lie in how contemporary vernacular architecture can continuously introduce local culture in a more modern way, ensuring its enduring popularity among the public as times become increasingly modern.en_US
