dc.description.abstractDental caries and periodontitis are synergistically related, either negatively or entirely independently.There is a positive relationship between microbiological etiology and biofilm formation. Several plants have antibacterial properties that can inhibit dental plaque formation, one of which is breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg). This study aims to examine the effectiveness of breadfruit leaf extract (Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg) against calcium and potassium ion leakage in Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The research method used was a laboratory experimental method with a Post-Test Only Control Group Design. The test samples were ethanol extracts of breadfruit leaves diluted using DMSO with concentrations of 0.09%, 0.19%, 0.39%, 0.78%, and 1.56%. Group 6 was added with 0.2% chlorhexidine, and group 7 with only DMSO. Samples were incubated for 24 hours at 370C, and then calcium and potassium ion leakage was measured using a spectrophotometer to assess absorbance. The results showed that the smallest concentration, i.e., 0.09% breadfruit leaf extract (Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg), could already cause calcium and potassium leakage in Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The Kruskal-Wallis test results obtained a significance value of p=0.001 (p<0.005), indicating a significant difference in calcium and potassium leakage among the tested groups. Based on these results, it can be concluded that breadfruit leaf extract (Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg) has antibacterial activity in causing calcium and potassium leakage in Streptococcus mutans bacteria.en_US
