    Abstract
This research is entitled “The Self-Concept of Male Body Piercing Users (A Study of Students at the University of North Sumatra)”. This research aims to identify the motives of male body piercing users among students at the University of North Sumatra and to understand the self-concept of male body piercing users among students at the University of North Sumatra by analyzing self-image, self-esteem, and ideal self. This study employs a qualitative approach using descriptive research methods and adopts a constructivist paradigm to understand the social reality experienced by the research subjects. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and literature review. Data validity was tested using triangulation of sources. The number of informants, consisting of four main informants, indicates that the motives behind the decision to use body piercing by University of North Sumatra students vary from the influence of social circles, admired role models, rejection of negative stigma regarding masculinity, and internal issues of emotional release. The self-concept of male body piercing among students at the University of North Sumatra as a whole shows a dynamic self-concept that varies. Of the four main informants interviewed, three showed a positive self-concept and one showed a negative self-concept.
