Breast cancer damages organs and tissues in the body, including the liver. The
leaves of moringa (Moringa oleifera L.) contain metabolite compounds, such as
flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins and terpenoids/steroids, which act as
antioxidants and as a trigger improvement in the histological structure of the liver.
This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Moringa leaves on the
liver morphology and histology of rats (Rattus norvegicus L.), a model of breast cancer
induced by 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]Anthracene (DMBA). The research used
experimental methods and a completely randomized design (CRD) by six treatments
and four replicates. The treatments consisted of K0, mice without treatment; the
negative control, induced only by DMBA at a concentration of 50 mg/kg bw. Positive
controls done by given the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin at a concentration of 15
mg/kg bw. Next, groups P1, P2 and P3 were given by moringa leaf ethanol extract
with concentrations of 100, 200, 300 mg/kg bw. The results of the study show that the
administration of moringa leaf ethanol extract by a concentration of 200 mg/kg bw is
able to improve the liver morphology in terms of liver surface colour, reducing liver
weight and volume and to reduce the level of hepatocyte cell damage including
parenchymatous degeneration, hydropic degeneration and necrosis (p<0.05) as a
action of 7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]Anthracene (DMBA).
