    Abstract
This study aims to analyze the influence of therapeutic communication and family support on improving health literacy among diabetic patients in Medan, Indonesia. A quantitative approach was employed, with the study population consisting of diabetic individuals aged 15 and above residing in Medan. A total of 398 respondents were selected using the Yamane sampling technique. The results showed that the variable of therapeutic communication significantly influenced the improvement of health literacy among diabetic patients, as indicated by a significance value of 0,000 (p < 0,05) and a constant value of 1,88 in the partial t-test. Additionally, family support was also found to significantly affect diabetic health literacy, with a significance value of 0,000 (p < 0,05) and a constant value of 2,144 in the partial t-test. Overall, therapeutic communication and family support contributed 12,7% to increase in health literacy among diabetic patients, while other factors such ac knowledge, attitude, self-efficacy, dietary patterns, and medical control accounted for the remaining 87,3%. The study also found that more than 59,7% of the population lacked a proper understanding of the different types of diabetes mellitus. This research concludes that therapeutic communication and family support play a critical role in enhancing health literacy among diabetic patients in Medan, Indonesia, and can serve as a foundation for future interventions to improve diabetes awareness and management in the community.
