Pengaruh Ekstrak Etanol Buah Pare (Momordica charantia L.) sebagai pulmoprotektor pada Mencit (Mus musculus L.) yang Terpapar Obat Antinyamuk Elektrik
the Effect of Ethanol Extrack of Bitter Melon Fruit (Momordica charantia L.) as a Pulmoprotector on Mice (Mus musculus L.) Exposed to Electric Mosquito Repellant
Abstract
Electric mosquito repellent is a material that is heated with an electrically that contains a dangerous chemical compound called allethrin. Allethrin can trigger oxidative stress which affects lung health. Oxidative stress can be reduced by administering antioxidants. Bitter melon contains secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoids and tannins which act as natural antioxidants. The study aims to analyze the effect of ethanol extract of bitter melon on the morphology and histology of the lungs of mice exposed by the electric mosquito repellent. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments consisted of control, exposed only to electric mosquito repellen, exposed to electric mosquito repellent plus vitamin C, and exposed to electric mosquito repellent and administration of bitter melon ethanol extract with doses of 50, 75 and 100 mg/KgBW. Lung organ preparations were made using the paraffin method and Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) staining. The results of the study show that administration of 100 mg/KgBW bitter melon ethanol extract improve the morphology (color, weight, organ index) and the lung histology (alveolar membrane, alveolar lumen, relationship between alveoli) of the mice exposed by the electric mosquito repellent. Ethanol extract of bitter melon has the potential as a pulmoprotector.
