Pengaruh Literasi Keuangan terhadap Pengelolaan Tabungan Mahasiswa Universitas Sumatera Utara

Abstract

University students, as part of the younger generation currently undergoing a transition toward financial independence, face various challenges in managing their personal finances wisely. One crucial aspect they need to possess is financial literacy, which refers to the ability to understand and manage finances effectively in order to achieve financial goals, including savings management. Financial literacy is believed to influence how students manage their income and expenses, as well as to shape their saving habits from an early stage. This study aims to examine the influence of financial literacy on the savings management of students at University of North Sumatra. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through interviews involving students from various faculties. The findings indicate that most students are familiar with the concept of financial literacy and are aware of the importance of managing personal finances. However, not all students have the habit of recording expenses or regularly preparing budgets. Financial literacy has been proven to play a significant role in shaping saving habits, regulating expenses, and encouraging wiser financial decision-making. These findings highlight the importance of providing financial literacy education from an early stage to support the development of healthy financial behavior among students.
