Exposure to toxic active chemicals such as continuously use of electric mosquito repellent can trigger oxidative stress. Excessive oxidative stress has the potential to damage tissues and organs, including the spleen. Oxidative stress can be prevented by antioxidants. Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) contains flavonoid compounds and vitamin C which act as antioxidants. This study aims to analyse the effect of giving ethanol extract of bitter melon on the morphology changing and the histology of the spleen of mice (Mus musculus L.) exposed to electric mosquito repellent. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six treatments and four replications. The treatments consisted of control; only exposed to electric mosquito repellent; exposed to electric mosquito repellent + vitamin; and exposed to electric mosquito repellent and administration of bitter melon extract with doses of 50, 75, and 100 mg/kgBW. The results show that administration of bitter melon ethanol extract can improve the color, the shape, the texture, the weight and the index of the spleen organ and also reduce the diameter of the white pulp as well as the number of cells undergoing necrosis (P<0.05). Bitter melon ethanol extract with a dose of 75 mg/kgBW has the potential effect as an antioxidant agent in protecting the spleen from exposure to electric mosquito repellent.en_US
