    Abstract
    Background : Red andong leaves have red leaves that come from anthocyanins so they can be used as natural pigments or natural dyes that can be used as natural dyes in blush on stick preparations as blusher. Objective : Formulating and evaluating the effectiveness of blush on stick preparation of ethanol extract of red andong leaves as blusher. Method : Red andong leaf simplicia is made by drying process then extracted by maceration method using 70% ethanol then characterization and phytochemical screening are carried out on the simplicia and extract. Blush on stick preparation formulation uses variation of red andong leaf ethanol extract concentration of 10%(F1), 15%(F2), and 20%(F3). Evaluation of the blush on stick included physical stability testing, fracture test, irritation test, preference test, and effectiveness as a cheek colorant. Result : The results of the characteristics of red andong leaf simplicia are water content 5.98%, water soluble essence 33.74%, ethanol soluble essence 12.69%, total ash 4.87%, and acid insoluble ash 1.05%. The characteristic results of the red andong leaf extract were water content 3.98%, total ash 5.94%, and acid insoluble ash 0.92%. Simplicia and red andong leaf extract contain secondary metabolite compounds in the form of flavonoids, tannins, saponins, glycosides, and steroids/triterpenoids. The blush on stick preparations produced aresheer F1 was light pink, F2 was pink, and F3 was purple pink, have a distinctive smell, are homogeneous, have a pH of 5.45-6.30, are stable after 12 weeks of storage at room temperature, do not cause irritation, and have good spreadability with a preparation concentration of 20%, which is the preparation most preferred by the panelists. Conclusion : Red andong leaf extract can be used as a coloring agent in blush on stick formulations. The blush on stick preparation that was most preferred by the panelists was a preparation of red andong leaf extract at a concentration of 20% which was purple pink in color. The blush on stick preparation was stable during 12 weeks of storage at room temperature, did not irritate the skin, free of fractures and met the physical quality requirements of the blush on stick preparation.
