Indonesia is one of the countries with abundant natural resources, including those from the livestock sector. To optimize the utilization of these resources, livestock farming must be supported by adequate feed, such as grass, which requires a grass chopper machine. This machine facilitates livestock needs by converting electrical energy into mechanical energy, operating through a chopping or slicing mechanism. However, one of the main challenges in using grass chopper machines is the difficulty in maintaining internal components due to the closed-bolt assembly concept. This issue prevents comprehensive maintenance activities from being conducted. This study aims to identify customer complaints regarding the actual design issues using Quality Function Deployment (QFD) and to develop an improved grass chopper machine design through the integration of Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Serviceability (DFS). QFD analysis is used to idenditfy customer requirement, while DFA and DFS integration is to find new product design which is easy to assemble and maintenance. QFD Phase I analysis indicates that the priority technical characteristics requiring immediate improvement are ease of assembly and maintenance, which can be addressed using the snap-fit approach. Improving serviceability ensures that the machine operates effectively as expected. QFD Phase II analysis identifies the machine casing as a critical component, necessitating design simplification to enhance both assembly and maintenance efficiency. By applying DFA and DFS integration to the proposed grass chopper machine design, the results show a reduction in assembly time by 52.41 minutes, a decrease in assembly costs by Rp16,857.1, a reduction in component count by four units, and an improvement in assembly efficiency by 7.88%.
