Abstract
Serdang Bedagai, a regency in North Sumatra, Indonesia, possesses a unique landscape characterized by its coastal location and extensive rice fields. This region holds significant potential as a sustainable and distinctive tourism destination. This research, titled "SEEDS OF INTERACTION: DESIGNING A MULTI-PURPOSE FARMING CENTER AS A COMMUNITY GATHERING AND TOURIST DESTINATION IN SERDANG BEDAGAI," aims to explore and develop a multi-purpose farming center that serves as both a hub for community interaction and a tourist attraction.
The chosen site is situated along the coastline, the region’s main attraction, and is surrounded by fertile rice fields. This setting presents an opportunity to integrate sustainable farming with community engagement and tourism. The primary objective of this research is to create a farming center model that simultaneously benefits the local community and attracts visitors.
The proposed multi-purpose farming center will function as a platform for knowledge exchange, active farmer participation, and agricultural education. It will foster community collaboration, allowing local farmers to interact, share experiences, and enhance their skills in a setting that promotes sustainable agriculture.
Furthermore, the center will serve as a tourist destination offering a unique agricultural experience. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in farming activities, learn about rice cultivation, and enjoy fresh agricultural products. This initiative is expected to positively impact the local economy by increasing tourist influx and generating additional income for farmers.
The design of this center will adhere to sustainable architectural principles, optimizing resource use, incorporating environmentally friendly technologies, and integrating strategies that enhance social and economic well-being. Additionally, local cultural elements will be embedded in the design to preserve and promote the region’s identity.
This research carries significant implications for the community of Serdang Bedagai. The establishment of a sustainable multi-purpose
viifarming center will create employment opportunities, improve farmers' quality of life, raise awareness of sustainable agriculture, and strengthen local culture. Moreover, by attracting tourists, the regional economy will experience growth, benefiting the entire community.
In conclusion, this research envisions a farming center that fosters community interaction and sustainability while promoting the natural tourism potential of Serdang Bedagai.
