| dc.description.abstract | Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, including in Indonesia. Family support is crucial in helping patients undergo cancer treatment, especially in communities with a strong family culture, such as the Mandailing tribe. This study aims to identify the management of Mandailing family care for cancer patients in Medan. The method used was a descriptive case study of three families with members at risk of breast cancer, conducted at the North Sumatra branch of the Indonesian Cancer Foundation's halfway house. The problem-solving process included assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation based on the five family tasks. The results showed that all families experienced difficulties in recognizing health problems, making treatment decisions, and utilizing health facilities. Several contributing factors included fear of medical procedures, economic constraints, and limited knowledge about early cancer detection. Surgical interventions in the form of education, facilitating decision-making, and strengthening the family's role have been shown to increase family awareness, involvement, and presence in patient care. The conclusion of this study is that a family homicide approach that takes into account cultural, economic, and psychological aspects is highly effective in improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
