Management of Nursing Care for Hypertensive Clients through Education on the DASH Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) in Tigaurung Village, Pamatang Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency
Abstract
Hypertension is the leading cause of premature death worldwide, and the number one cause of death in Indonesia, especially in North Sumatra. This is due to the patients' lack of ability to manage their diet. One type of dietary approach that can be applied to hypertensive patients is the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). The purpose of this senior practical work is to implement nursing care for hypertensive patients through education on the DASH diet menu in managing the diets of hypertensive patients. The method used in this activity is health education using Booklet media. The activities include pre-tests and post-tests to assess clients' knowledge about Hypertension and the DASH diet. The results of the pre-test based on the assessment of knowledge before education related to the DASH diet showed that 5 clients (100.0%) had poor knowledge, and after the post-test, all knowledge of women of childbearing age improved, reaching 5 clients (100.0%). Based on the results of nursing care management for 5 clients, an increase in clients' knowledge about Hypertension and the DASH Diet was obtained in Tigaurung Village, Pamatang Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency.
The application of this diet is expected to improve the
effectiveness of condition recovery in hypertensive patients and also help improve the quality of life of the patients to avoid the risk of degenerative diseases caused by hypertension.
