Professional Pharmacist Internship Report of Community Health Center at UPT Puskesmas Rantang Medan
Abstract
Background: Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) are primary healthcare facilities that provide first-level public health services, prioritizing promotive and preventive efforts to achieve the highest possible level of public health within their working areas. As a primary healthcare facility, pharmaceutical services are an integral part of the healthcare system at Puskesmas. Therefore, pharmacists need to be equipped with the skills, expertise, and understanding necessary to manage pharmaceutical supplies and consumable medical materials, as well as to provide clinical pharmacy services at Puskesmas through the Professional Pharmacist Internship Program (PKPA).
Purpose: The purpose of the Professional Pharmacist Internship at Puskesmas is to enhance pharmacy students’ understanding of the pharmacist’s role, functions, position, and responsibilities in performing pharmaceutical work at a Community Health Center in a professional manner.
Summary: The internship was carried out at the Rantang Community Health Center (UPT Puskesmas Rantang), located in Sei Putih Tengah Subdistrict, Medan Petisah District, Medan City, North Sumatra, over a period of 23 days. The internship schedule was Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 15:00 WIB and Saturday from 08:00 to 13:30 WIB. The activities conducted included the management of pharmaceutical supplies and consumable medical materials, as well as clinical pharmacy services in accordance with the Indonesian Minister of Health Regulation No. 74 of 2016 concerning Pharmaceutical Services at Puskesmas. Additionally, health promotion activities were conducted for the community.
Conclusion: After completing the PKPA at UPT Puskesmas Rantang, pharmacist candidates are able to understand the roles, functions, and responsibilities of pharmacists in performing pharmaceutical work at Community Health Centers, particularly in the management of pharmaceutical supplies, consumable medical materials (CMM), and clinical pharmacy services professionally and in accordance with applicable regulations.
