Report on Pharmacist Professional Practice Internship at UPT Puskesmas Sering, Medan City Health Office
Abstract
Background: Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) are primary healthcare facilities that implement first-level public health efforts, prioritizing promotive and
preventive actions to achieve the highest possible degree of public health in their working area. As a primary service facility, pharmaceutical services are an integral
part of the Puskesmas healthcare system. Therefore, pharmacists need to be equipped with the skills, expertise, and understanding to manage the supply of pharmaceutical preparations and medical consumables, as well as clinical pharmacy services at the Puskesmas through the Pharmacist Professional Practice Internship (PKPA).
Objective: The Pharmacist Professional Practice Internship at the Puskesmas aims to enhance prospective pharmacists' understanding of the role, function, position, and responsibility of a pharmacist in professional pharmaceutical work at the Puskesmas.
Summary: The internship activities were conducted at UPT Puskesmas Sering, Medan City, North Sumatra, from November 1 to 28, 2024, from 08:00–15:00 WIB on Monday–Friday and 08:00–13:30 WIB on Saturday. The activities included
managing the supply of pharmaceutical preparations and medical consumables
(BMHP) at the Puskesmas and providing Clinical Pharmacy Services in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 74 of 2016 concerning Pharmaceutical Services at Puskesmas, along with conducting health promotion for the community.
Conclusion: After completing the PKPA activities at UPT Puskesmas Sering,
prospective pharmacists are able to understand the role, function, and responsibility of a pharmacist in pharmaceutical work at the Puskesmas related to the professional
management of pharmaceutical supplies and medical consumables (BMHP) and clinical pharmacy services, in accordance with applicable regulations.
