This study employs the historical method with a qualitative approach,
encompassing the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and
historiography. Data were collected through documentation and in-depth
interviews with related figures. The research aims to explore the establishment,
development, and challenges faced by the Flobamora organization in West
Sumatra from 1996 to 2018. Flobamora, an association of migrants from East
Nusa Tenggara (NTT) named after its four main islands—Flores, Sumba, Timor,
and Alor—was founded as a response to the need for adaptation in a new social
and cultural environment, particularly in West Sumatra. The findings reveal that
Flobamora not only serves as a familial community for NTT migrants but also
plays a vital role in strengthening cultural identity, fostering interethnic relations,
and participating in various social and cultural activities in the region. Despite
challenges such as declining member participation and stark cultural differences
between local and homeland values, Flobamora has successfully sustained its
existence as an inclusive social organization contributing to social integration in
the host community. This study enriches local historical literature and provides
insights into the importance of regional organizations in preserving identity and
solidarity among migrant communities.
