A temporary bridge is a denture that aims to replace missing teeth
temporarily until a permanent bridge is installed. The most commonly used
temporary denture materials are self-polymerized acrylic resin (SVA) and bis-acryl.
The wearing time is highly dependent on the procedure for making a permanent
bridge. Color stability is a very important characteristic of temporary bridge
materials. Indonesians like to consume herbal medicine, one of which is turmeric and
tamarind herbal medicine. The main ingredient of this herbal medicine is turmeric
with additional ingredients, namely tamarind. The curcumin dye in turmeric and
tamarind is feared to affect the color stability of temporary bridge materials. The
purpose of this study was to determine the effect of soaking and the difference in the
effect of soaking temporary bridge materials using self-polymerized acrylic resin and
bis-acryl on color stability. The study design was an experimental laboratory pretest
& post-test control group design with 40 cylindrical samples with a diameter of 15 ±
0.5 mm and a thickness of 2 ± 0.5 mm in a turmeric and tamarind solution and
artificial saliva as a control group. The color stability of the samples was then tested
using a colorimeter. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and LSD. There was
a significant difference in the effect of immersion between the RAS and bis-acryl
groups across all immersion groups (p = 0.0001 (p < 0.05)), and there was a
significant difference in the effect of immersion between the RAS and bis-acryl
groups across all immersion groups (p = 0.0001 (p < 0.05)). Self-polymerizing acrylic resin is preferred for patients as a temporary bridge material because it is
more resistant to color change than bis-acryl.
