Study Of The Effectiveness Of Water Apple (Syzygium aqueum) Pollination By Stingless Bees (Trigona spp.) In The Medan Istana Jambu Agrotourism Garden, Sidirejo, Deli Serdang Regency
Abstract
The use of Trigona sp. as a pollinator is one of the meliponiculture techniques
to increase plant pollination. Klanceng bees (Trigona sp.) are a type of stingless bee
that has an important role as a plant pollinator. This study aims to analyze the effect
of Trigona sp. utilization on Syzygium aqueum fruit production. The study was
conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with several treatments, the first
being open and the second with the presence of Trigona sp. Observation parameters
of this study included physical environmental factors, number of fruits, fruit weight,
and fertilization duration. The results showed that treatment with the presence of
Trigona sp. increased fruit production, although not significantly. Treatment with the
presence of Trigona sp. produced the highest fruit weight, namely 270.00 ± 22.64a
compared to the treatment without insect net cover 202.33 ± 14.18a. The percentage
of water apple pollen obtained was 11.4% and 10.8%. The pollen collected consisted
of 13 species, five of which were unidentified. Physical environmental factors observed
showed that air humidity was inversely proportional to temperature and light intensity,
indicating that bee visitation increased when temperature and light intensity were high
and humidity was low. The results indicate that Trigona sp. plays a crucial role as a
plant pollinator, increasing the productivity of cultivated plants.
