Introduction. Graves’ disease is an autoimmune disease and the most common cause of hyperthyroidism in children. Children with Graves’ disease often experience changes in nutritional status due to increased basal metabolic rate, increased appetite, accelerated bone growth, and early closure of the growth plate. Nutritional status assessment is important for determining prognosis and planning appropriate nutritional interventions. Objective. This study aimed to describe the nutritional status of children with Graves’ disease at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan, 20155, INDONESIA, from 2020 to 2024. Method. This was a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of children aged 5—18 years with Graves’ disease from January 2020 to December 2024, based on medical record data using a total sampling technique. The variables analyzed included sex, age, weight-for-age, height-for-age, weight-for-height, and BMI-for-age based on the CDC 2000 growth charts. Result and Discussion. Among 40 patients, the majority were female (85%) and aged 10—18 years (92.5%). Most children had normal weight (72,5%) based on weight-for-age, normal height (90%) based on height-for-age, normal nutritional status (35%) based on weight-for-height, and normal nutritional status (94,4%) based on BMI-for-age. Conclusion. The findings of this study indicate that most children with Graves’ disease had normal nutritional status as assessed by weight-for-age, height-for-age, weight-for-height, and BMI-for-age at the time of diagnosis.
