The Relationship Between Parenting Patterns and Premarital Sexual Behavior in Adolescents of Prayatna Private High School in Medan City in 2024
Abstract
Premarital sexual behavior occurs massively among adolescents, this is based on a preliminary survey of adolescents at Prayatna Senior High School where most adolescents have engaged in premarital sexual activity. One of the factors that causes premarital sexual behavior in adolescents is parental parenting patterns. This study aims to determine the relationship between parental parenting patterns and sexual behavior in adolescents using quantitative methods with a cross- sectional approach. The population in the study was 199 students, where the sample was obtained at 57 students after being calculated using the formula for testing the proportion of one population data hypothesis with a non-probability sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. The data collection method used a questionnaire. The research analysis used univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (chi square and fisher's exact), and multivariate analysis (simple logistic regression). The results of this study indicate that the average respondent has a democratic parenting pattern of 50 students (87,7%) and engages in sexual behavior of 36 students (63,2%). The results of the bivariate analysis in this study showed no significant relationship between parenting patterns and sexual behavior seen from the p-value of 0,657 > 0,05. However, there is a relationship between access to sources of sexuality information and sexual behavior seen from the p- value of 0,036. The multivariate results in this study showed that there were no significant variables on sexual behavior (p-value > 0,05) while the highest OR value was in the variable of religious understanding of 2,025 which means that students with poor religious understanding engaged in sexual behavior 2,025 times compared to students with poor religious understanding. This study concludes that parents are expected to be more concerned about sexuality information accessed by adolescents and are advised to provide healthy and quality sexuality information to adolescents to help adolescents maintain their reproductive health, parents are also advised to provide good religious understanding to prevent sexual behavior in adolescents.
