Pengaruh Pemberian Seduhan Bunga Telang (Clitoria ternatea) Terhadap Tekanan Darah dan Kualitas Tidur Penderita Prehipertensi
Effect of Blue Pea Flower (Clitoria ternatea) Infusion on Blood Pressure and Sleep Quality in Individuals with Prehypertension
Abstract
Background: Prehypertension is a condition in which blood pressure is above normal but has not yet reached the hypertension stage. This condition rises the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, and may also lead to a decrease in sleep quality. One of the nonpharmacological alternatives that can be used to lower blood pressure and improve sleep quality is the regular consumption of butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) infusion. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of Clitoria ternatea infusion on blood pressure and sleep quality among individuals with prehypertension. Methods: This study employed a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 34 respondents with prehypertension selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: After the intervention, the mean systolic blood pressure decreased to 113.71 ± 8.09 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure to 73.00 ± 4.52 mmHg, heart rate frequency to 73.97 ± 7.14 bpm and the mean PSQI score to 4.41 ± 0.96. The results showed a significant effect (p < 0,001) on both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate frequency and an improvement in sleep quality as indicated by a significant decrease in PSQI scores. Thus, H₁ was accepted. Conclusion: This study concludes that the administration of butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) infusion has a significant effect on lowering blood pressure and improving sleep quality in individuals with prehypertension.
