Background. Fibroadenoma and benign Phyllodes tumour are two types of fibroepithelial breast lesions that are commonly found in women. Both share similarities in clinical, radiological, and even certain histological morphological features, which often lead to difficulties in establishing an accurate diagnosis. However, despite their benign nature, Phyllodes tumours have the potential for rapid growth, local recurrence, and in some cases, transformation into borderline or malignant forms. In contrast, fibroadenomas are generally stable and rarely cause complications. Therefore, a comparative study of the histopathological features of Fibroadenoma and benign Phyllodes tumour is necessary to clarify diagnostic parameters that can more accurately distinguish between the two lesions, thereby supporting appropriate therapeutic decisions and preventing diagnostic errors.
Objective. To determine the differences in histopathological features between Fibroadenoma (FAM) and benign Phyllodes tumour of the breast tissue. Method. This study employed a comparative analytic method with a retrospective cross- sectional approach to evaluate and compare the histopathological features of breast tissue specimens diagnosed as FAM and benign Phyllodes tumour. The samples consisted of tissue specimens from patients diagnosed with FAM and benign Phyllodes tumour at Advent General Hospital, Medan, collected between January and December 2024.Results. Among 52 samples analyzed, the study demonstrated a p-value <0.01 based on Fisher’s Exact Test, indicating a relation between variables. Cramer’s V values of 0.569, 0.786, and 0.632 further indicates a strong proportional difference across all parameters. Conclusion. There are significant histopathological differences between Fibroadenoma Mammae and benign Phyllodes tumor tissues.
