Analisis Ketersediaan Sarana dan Prasarana Dinas Perpustakaan dan Kearsipan Kabupaten Serdang Bedagai

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the availability of facilities and infrastructure at the Library and Archives Office of Serdang Bedagai Regency in supporting library services to the community. Adequate facilities and infrastructure are important factors in improving the quality of services and the reading interest of the community. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through observation, interview, and documentation. The results of this research showed that in general the library already had infrastructure and basic facilities that quite supported the operational activities of the library, such as bookshelves, computers, AC, and a comfortable reading room. However, several shortcomings were still found when compared to the Regulation of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia Number 2 of 2024 concerning National Standards of the Republic, including the lack of magazine racks, audio-visual racks, reading tables, and the unavailability of journal racks, visual impairment reading tools, and internet access. In addition, the library location which was less strategic also became an obstacle in reaching the wider community and the building size was not yet adequate based on the local population. Therefore, the improvement of facilities and infrastructure gradually as well as the development of technology-based and mobility-based services is necessary so that the library can function optimally as a community literacy center.
