    Abstract
Background. Lateral inguinal hernia is among the most common surgical conditions, and postoperative pain after repair can hinder early mobilization, prolong hospitalization, and reduce patient satisfaction. Evidence on whether age and blood pressure influence the duration of postoperative pain remains inconsistent. Objective. Analyzing the relationship between age and the influence of blood pressure on postoperative pain duration in patients with lateral inguinal hernia at Prof. dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Universitas Sumatera Utara Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan, 20155, INDONESIA. Methods. This observasional cross-sectional study included patients who underwent surgery from August 2022 to March 2025 at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital, Universitas Sumatera Utara. Consecutive sampling yielded 100 patients. Independent variables were age (adults 19–59 years; older adults ≥60 years) and blood-pressure categories according to the 2018 ESC/ESH guidelines. The dependent variable was postoperative pain duration (<24 hours vs >24 hours). Associations were tested using the Chi-square test. Results. There was no significant association between age and pain duration (p=0.558) or between blood-pressure category and pain duration (p=0.577). Conclusion. In this cohort, neither age nor blood pressure was significantly associated with the duration of postoperative pain after lateral inguinal hernia repair. Other determinants may be more influential and warrant further investigation.
