An Analysis of Hate Speech in Social Media

Abstract

This study applied a qualitative descriptive approach that establishes the requirement that a study must be carried out on the basis of existing facts. This study aims to examine hate speeches that addressed to President Joko Widodo. The source of data of this study were obtained from several mass media and social media from the haters of president Joko Widodo. This research data is in the form of phrase and clause which contained in status, caption, and video. The collected data is assessed using the Culpeper‘s Impoliteness Strategies theory to find out the types of hate speeches. This study applies a socio-pragmatic study in the forensic linguistics concept, because the data that used are the products of violations of law, therefore the use of Law No 19 of 2016 Concerning Information and Electronic Transactions has an important role in finding the types of violation which are the most dominant among netizens. The use of pragmatic studies in the forensic linguistic concept aims to classify the types of hate speeches, while the category of hate speech that used as data is hate speech that has been viral and processed by the police.

Penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif yang menetapkan persyaratan bahwa penelitian harus dilakukan berdasarkan fakta yang ada. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji ujaran kebencian yang ditujukan kepada Presiden Joko Widodo. Sumber data penelitian ini diperoleh dari beberapa media massa dan media sosial dari para haters Presiden Joko Widodo. Data penelitian ini berupa frasa dan klausa yang terkandung dalam status, teks, dan video. Data yang terkumpul dinilai menggunakan teori Impoliteness Strategies Culpeper untuk mengetahui jenis ujaran kebencian. Penelitian ini menerapkan studi sosio-pragmatis dalam konsep linguistik forensik, karena data yang digunakan adalah hasil dari pelanggaran hukum, oleh karena itu penggunaan UU No 19 tahun 2016 tentang Informasi dan Transaksi Elektronik memiliki peran penting dalam menemukan jenis-jenis pelanggaran yang paling dominan di kalangan netizen. Penggunaan studi pragmatis dalam konsep linguistik forensik bertujuan untuk mengklasifikasikan jenis-jenis ujaran kebencian, sedangkan kategori ujaran kebencian yang digunakan sebagai data adalah ujaran kebencian yang telah viral dan diproses oleh polisi.
