    Abstract
    Many difficulties are found in solving arithmetic problems in the form of verbal, this can be reviewed from various factors such as questions and students, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of arithmetic problems in the form of verbal in terms of problems. This study aims to map out the type of semantic structure of verbal arithmetic questions for elementary school students and to identify the type of semantic structure in the matter of verbal arithmetic which becomes the factor causing students' difficulties in understanding the story. This research is a qualitative research with content analysis approach. The content analysis approach applied to achieve the research objective is to map out the type of semantic structure on verbal arithmetic problems for elementary school students. Meanwhile, to know the type of semantic structure that is difficult to understand students conducted by conducting interviews. This research is done by analyzing the document is a verbal arithmetic-shaped questions. The results showed that the characteristics of the type of semantic structure in the story matter are classified into 5 types of change, group, restate, vary and compare. Problems that are difficult to understand in elementary school students are related to semantic structure such as restate, change, restate and group combinations, restate, group and vary combinations with two-step and three-step solutions.
     
    Banyak kesulitan yang ditemukan dalam menyelesaikan persoalan aritmatika berbentuk verbal, ini dapat ditinjau dari berbagai faktor seperti faktor soalnya dan siswanya, maka perlu dilakukan analisis karakteristik persoalan aritmatika berbentuk verbal dari segi soal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan tipe struktur semantik soal-soal aritmatika berbentuk verbal untuk siswa sekolah dasar dan mengidentifikasi tipe struktur semantik dalam soal aritmatika berbentuk verbal yang menjadi faktor penyebab kesulitan siswa dalam memahami soal cerita. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan content analysis (analisis isi). Pendekatan analisis isi diterapkan untuk mencapai tujuan penelitian yaitu untuk memetakan tipe struktur semantik pada soal-soal aritmatika berbentuk verbal untuk siswa sekolah dasar. Sedangkan untuk mengetahui tipe struktur semantik yang sulit dipahami siswa dilakukan dengan melakukan wawancara.Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menganalisis dokumen yaitu soal-soal aritmatika berbentuk verbal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakteristik tipe struktur semantik dalam soal cerita diklasifikasikan menjadi 5 tipe yaitu change, group, restate, vary dan compare. Soal cerita yang sulit dipahami siswa disekolah dasar berkaitan dengan struktur semantik antara lain tipe restate, change, kombinasi restate dan group, kombinasi restate, group dan vary dengan solusi dua-langkah dan tiga-langkah.
