dc.description.abstract | One of the determinants of success in education at schools is the
teachers’ role as the main educational resource in managing the teaching
process and social interaction (social competence), either in class or outside
class, professionally in order to yield qualified output and high learning
performance. Social competence is the ability 1) to communicate verbally, in
written form, and in hints, 2) to use communication and information technology
functionally, 3) to socialize effectively with students, colleagues, and students’
parents, and 4) to socialize politely with the surrounding people.
The objective of the research was to describe the interaction pattern
between teachers ad students and to find out some factors which influenced the
intensity of social interaction between them during the process of learning
sociology, and to find out the correlation of the quality of teachers’ social
interaction (verbal and non-verbal) with students’ learning performance in
sociology (their grades) in the Rayon of SMA Negeri 12, Medan.
The research used explanatory method with a survey on 160
respondents, taken by using purposive sampling technique with the hypothesis
that there was the correlation between the quality of teachers’ social interaction
and students’ learning performance in sociology in the Rayon of SMA Negeri
12, Medan.
The result of the research showed that a) students’ learning
performance in the subject of Sociology was very good, b) the students got
competence in behavior by learning sociology; they were adaptive in learning to
see their environmental situation and began to avoid deviant behavior, but their
high interest in learning sociology, they are not interested in becoming
sociologists, c) there was significant correlation between teachers’ social
interaction quality and students’ learning performance in the subject of
Sociology; it was indicated by teachers’ behavior in the subject of Sociology
during their interaction with students at school or outside school. They
considered their students as friends. Sociology teachers are transparent figures
in socialization with students, new reference users, and good preparation before
teaching which was related to students’ high grades in Sociology in the
learning-teaching process at their school. | en_US |
