The Description of Mystery Seen on Jacob in Riggs’s Novel Hollow City

Abstract

The paper entitled "The Description of Mystery Seen on Jacob in Riggs’s Novel Hollow City.” “Hollow City” is a mystery novel written by Ransom Riggs. This novel the second novel after Miss Peregrine Peculir Children by Ransom Riggs that tells the story of Jacob as the main character in this novel, which can fit into the time portal through the story of his grandfather and meet the peculiar children. Their mission is to change their adopted parents (Miss Peregrine) poisned by Weigh into a eagle in order to become human again. The purpose of writing this paper is to describe of mystery seen on Jacob in this novel and describe the meaning of the mystery. The methods used in this paper is descriptive method, as a reading the novel Hollow City and studied based on the books of literary theory. In addition, the authors also takes some data from internet. The result of the study found that many mysteries are seen on Jacob tat he found many peculiar children (children mysteriously) in the time portal that have different strengths.

Kertas karya ini berjudul “The Description of Mystery Seen on Jacob in Riggs’s Novel Hollow City”. Hollow City adalah novel fiksi yang ditulis oleh Ransom Riggs. Novel ini membahas tentang misteri yang ada didalamnya. Novel ini adalah novel kedua setelah Miss Peregrine Peculiar Children karya Ransom Riggs yang menceritakan tentang Jacob sebagai tokoh utama dalam novel ini, yang dapat masuk keportal waktu melalui cerita kakeknya dan bertemu peculiar children. Misi mereka adalah merubah orang tua angkat yaitu Miss Peregrine yang telah diracuni oleh Weigh menjadi burung elang agar bisa menjadi manusia kembali. Tujuan penulisan kertas karya ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan misteri yang dilihat Jacob didalam novel Hollow City dan mendeskripsikan arti misteri itu. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian kertas karya ini adalah metode deskriftif, yaitu membaca novel Hollow City dan mempelajarinya berdasarkan buku-buku teori kesusastraan. Disamping itu, penulis juga mengambil beberapa data dari internet. Hasil dari penelitian ini menemukan bahwa banyak misteri yang diliahat Jacob, yaitu dia menemukan banyak anak berkemampuan khusus (anak misterius) didalam portal waktu yang mempunyai kekuatan berbeda-beda.
