    A Study of Diction Used in Rick Yancey’s Novel “The 5th Wave

    Abstract
    This paper deals with the study of Diction used in Rick Yancey’s novel “the 5th wave”. The objective is to find out the difficulty levels of the diction and the most dominant used in the novel. In order to get the needed result, the data are taken from the story of the novel. The data, then, are studied based on the aspect by using the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). which divides the difficulty levels into six levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2). From the study, it is found that A1=4, A2=5, B1=41, B2=33, C1=67, C2=102were collected in thoroughly-selected in those 50 pages. Where they were studied by using standard method suitably quantity library research of the precipitation method aligned by the CEFR on the Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary fourth edition. This indicates that there is possibility of obtaining C2 from the novel.
     
    Kertas karya ini membahas diksi yang digunakan dalam novel “The 5th Wave”. Tujuannya adalah untuk menemukan tingkat kesulitan diksi dan penggunaan level yang paling dominan digunakan dalam novel. Kemudian data tersebut didapatkan berdasarkan The Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). CEFR mengkategorikan tingkat kesulitan kedalam enam level yaitu A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, dan C2. Berdasarkan data yang didapat dari 50 halaman didalam novel ditemukan bahwa A=4, A=5, B-41, B2=33, C1=67, C2=102. Dimana ke-enam level tersebut didapat dengan menggunakan metode kuantitatif penelitian perpustakan berpacu pada CEFR dalam kamus Cambridge Advanced Learner’s edisi keempat. Di indikasikan bahwa level yang cenderung digunakan didalam novel adalah C2.
