An Analisys of Oedipus Complex in D.H Lawrence’s Sons and Lovers

Abstract

The title of this thesis is An Analysis of Oedipus complex in D.H Lawrence‟s Sons and Lovers. It is a novel written by one of England prominent writers, D.H Lawrence which tells about the conflict in the family that influences their son‟s psychological development and their son becomes suffering Oedipus complex. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the causes and effects of Oedipus complex toward the sufferer. The method of the research used in this thesis is a qualitative descriptive method. By doing this study, it is obtained that the causes of Oedipus complex are the conflict in parents‟ relationship, mother‟s special attention towards her son, mother interferes with son‟s relationship with other woman. The effects of Oedipus complex are the sufferer feels guilty, doesn‟t have self – confident, his personality unstable, doesn‟t marry, his psyche changes. This study is expected to provide deeper insights concerning about Oedipus complex.

Judul skripsi ini adalah An Analysis of Oedipus complex in D.H Lawrence‟s Sons and Lovers. Novel ini adalah sebuah novel karya salah satu penulis terkemuka di Inggris, D.H Lawrence, yang bercerita tentang konflik yang terjadi pada sebuah keluarga sehingga perkembangan psikologi putra mereka terganggu dan menjadi menderita Oedipus complex. Tujuan skripsi ini adalah untuk menelaah penyebab dan akibat dari Oedipus complex terhadap sipenderita. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah metode kualitatif deskriftif. Melalui pengkajian ini, diperoleh penyebab Oedipus complex yaitu konflik dalam hubungan orangtua, perhatian ibu yang special kepada putranya, ibu yang ikut campur dalam hubungan putranya dengan wanita lain. Akibat dari Oedipus complex yaitu penderita mengalami rasa bersalah, tidak memiliki kepercayaan diri, kepribadiannya tidak stabil, tidak menikah, psikisnya berubah. Kajian ini diharapkan memberikan wawasan yang lebih mendalam mengenai Oedipus complex.
