dc.description.abstractThis thesis entitled “ Conversation Analysis of Adjacency Pairs on Politico’s Conversation with President Obama” is a study about adjacency pairs and preference organization which are uttering a conversation between politico’s magazine with president Obama. The theory which is supporting this thesis is a theory proposed by Brian Paltridge (2006) that is contained in his book ‘Discourse Analysis: An Introduction’. The objective of this study are (1) to find out kinds of adjacency pairs on Politico’s conversation with president Obama (2) to find out preference organization on Politico’s conversation with president Obama. This thesis is qualitative research which describes and explains the analysis by using the words, so this thesis is descriptive and explanatory.The result of the analysis is there were three kinds of adjacency pairs. Kinds of adjacency pairs consisted of combination of question – answer, assessment – agreement/disagreement, and compliment – acceptance/rejection. There were also 48 preference organizationsthat consisted of 46 preferred responses and 2 dispreferred responses on the conversation.en_US
