Background: The most common manifestation of advanced cancer stage is metabolic symptoms called cancer kaheksia. Cancer cancer is anorexia-kahexia cancer (cancer of anorexia-cachexia syndrome / CACS). Decreased Carnosine Dipeptidase-1 levels in cancer kahexia patients correlated with cancer kahexia parameters associated with poor prognosis.
Material and Methods: The study was conducted on 29 cancer patients with clinical trials using one group pre-post test method by measuring Carnosine Dipeptidase-1 levels before and completing Ophiocephalus Striatus administration. The research was carried out in all network hospitals of the Department of Internal Medicine, Faculty of Medicine in the Universitas Sumatera Utara with the approval of the Faculty Medicine Research Ethics Commission, held from January to June 2019.
Results: This study was attended by 30 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. As many as 66.7% were men with an average age of 51.47 years. The majority of respondents had gastrointestinal cancer of 46.7%, followed by Lung Carcinoma 20%, Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma by 13.3%, Non Hodgkin Lymphoma in the amount of 6.7% and other cancers13.3%. The Wilcoxon test found a significant relationship between Carnosine Dipeptidase-1 before and after therapy using Ophiocephalus Striatus (p = 0.007). The increase in the value of Carnosine Dipeptidase-1 before treatment was 2.21 μg / mL to 2.8 μg / mL.
Conclusion: Carnosine Dipeptidase-1 levels before and after Ophiocephalus Striatus administration in Kaheksia Cancer patients were significantly associated.
