Experiential Function in New Zealand Prime Minister’s Speech: A Systemic Functional Linguistic Analysis

Abstract

This thesis entitle “ Experiential Function in New Zealand Prime minister’s speech: a Systemic Functional Linguistic Analysis” Is a study about Experiential Function found in New Zealand Prime Minister’s speech on 19 march 2019. The theory used in this thesis is Systemic Function Linguistic (Halliday, 2004). The objective of this study: (1) to describe the prominent elements of experiential function found in Prime Minister New Zeland’s speech, (2) to describe the realization of experiential function in the speech. This thesis is qualitative descriptive reaseacrh. The results of analysis found the speech is prominant process is Material Process (33.85 %), and the prominent of participant is elements of participant material process (30,95 %), and the last prominent of Circumstances elements is Locations (46,22%). The realization of Material process as the prominent process indicates that the text of New Zealand Prime Minister speech is a kind of narrative that describes the series of events and story of jacinda Ardern.

Skripsi ini berjudul “ Experiential Function in New Zealand Prime minister’s speech: a Systemic Functional Linguistic Analysis” merupakan sebuah kajian tentang fungsi pengalaman yang ditemukan pada text pidato Perdana Menteri Selandia Baru yaitu Jacinda Ardent pada tanggal 19 maret 2019. Adapun teori yang digunakan adalah teori Systemic Functional Linguisti (Halliday,2004). Tujuan dari kajian ini adalah : (1) untuk menguraikan bagian bagian dari Experiential Function yang paling mendominasi pada teks pidato Perdana Menteri Selandia Baru. (2) dan untuk menguraikan realisasi dari Experiential Function didalam teks pidato ini. Skripsi ini adalah penelitian Kualitatif Deskriptif. Dari hasil penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa didalam teks pidato tersebut terdapat Process yang dominan adalah Material Process (30.85%), dan Participant yang dominan adalah Participant yang dimiliki oleh Material Process (30,95%), dan yang terakhir Circumstance yang dominan adalah Location (46,22%). Realisasi atas Material Process dari pidato ini menunjukkan jenis pidato ini adalah Naratif yang menguraikan peristiwa dari suatu kejadian yang diceritakan oleh Jacinda Ardern.
