This thesis entitled A Study of English Taboo Words in Sex Education TV Series. The purposes of this thesis were to determine the types of taboo words, the functions of taboo words, and in what context taboo words which uttered by the characters in the TV series. This study employed descriptive qualitative method. The sources of the data were 8 videos from the first season of Sex Education TV series and their transcripts. In analyzing the data, theory of Wardhaugh (2014) was used to describe types and functions of taboo words and theory of Fromkin (2005) to describe in what context taboo words which uttered in the TV series. The result of this research shows that there were 190 data of taboo words where sex term were 64 data (33.3%), bodily function were 54 data (28.12%), excretion were 32 data (16.7%), religious matter were 24 data (12.5%), death were 9 data (4.7%), mother-in-law were 8 data (4.16%), and the left hand were 1 data (0.52%). The findings suggest that the characters use taboo words mostly to draw attention to oneself.
