Background: The COVID-19 pandemic currently occurring among humans and its spread around the world has a profound impact on global and mental health. Despite all the resources that go into fighting the spread of the virus, additional global strategies are needed to tackle mental health related issues. This pandemic is causing additional health problems such as stress, anxiety, depressive symptoms, insomnia, denial, anger and fear globally. Militaries around the world play an important role in mitigating various kinds of disasters. It is interesting to examine the actual roles played by various forces as well as to examine the roles considered in countries' disaster management policies. coverage of the broad mental health challenges of COVID-19, little attention is paid to the structural aspects of military mental health and the disruption of the role caused by COVID-19 in military groups Objective: Knowing the difference in the State Trait Anxiety Inventory-State (STAI-S) score and the State Trait Anxiety Inventory-Trait (STAI-T) score for the Soldiers of the Battalion Marine Defense Base-I Belawan during the Normal Period and the COVID-19 Pandemic Period. Method: a numerical comparative analytic studies paired with a retrospective cohort approach involving 76 soldiers in the Battalion Marine Defense Base-I Belawanin August 2020 to September 2020 aged 19 - 50 years with a probability sampling method of simple randome sampling type for research sampling. Results: There is a difference in the STAI-S score between the COVID-19 pandemic period and the normal period for the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldier. The median of the STAI-S score of the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldier in normal times is 33 with a minimum value of 20 and a maximum value of 53, while the median of the STAI-S score for the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldier during the COVID-19 pandemic is 35 with a minimum score of 20 and a maximum value of 55. There is a very significant difference between the STAI-S score between the COVID-19 pandemic and the normal condition of the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldiers (p <0.001). There was no significant difference in the STAI-T score between the COVID-19 pandemic and the normal period for the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldier. The median of the STAI-T score for the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldier in normal circumstances is 33 with a minimum value of 20 and a maximum value of 50, while the median of the STAI-T score during the COVID- 19 pandemic for the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldier is 33.5 with a minimum value of 20 and a maximum value of 50. There was no significant difference between the STAI-T scores between the COVID-19 pandemic and the normal condition of the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldiers (p = 0.45). The measuring instrument used is the State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Conclusion: There is a very significant difference between the STAI-S score between the COVID-19 pandemic and the normal condition of the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldiers (p <0.001). There was no significant difference between the STAI-Tscores between the COVID-19 pandemic and the normal condition of the Belawan Base I Defense Marine Battalion Soldiers (p = 0.45). Kesimpulan: Terdapat perbedaan bermakna skor State Trait Anxiety Inventory-State (STAI-S) dalam masa pandemi COVID-19 dan masa normal pada Prajurit Batalion Marinir Pertahanan Pangkalan-I Belawan (p <0.001). Tidak terdapat perbedaaan bermakna skor State Trait Anxiety Inventory-Trait (STAI-T) dalam masa pandemi COVID-19 dan masa normal pada Prajurit Batalion Marinir Pertahanan Pangkalan-I Belawan (p = 0.45).en_US
