A Sociopragmatic Analysis On The Big Question Of Bbc News

Abstract

This thesis entitled “A Sociopragmatic Analysis on The Big Question of BBC News”. This thesis applied a descriptive qualitative approach with content analysis method. This thesis focused on phenomenon of language use based on the theories. This aim helps researcher to investigate the meaning of social phenomena as experienced by the people. The source of data of this thesis were obtained from The Big Question of BBC News Channel on YouTube. The data is in the form of utterance. This thesis applied sociopragmatic approach to analyze speaker‟s social background and speaker‟s meaning through language use. To analyze speaker‟s social background, the researcher used VARIES Model theory while to analyze speaker‟s meaning, the researcher used Illocutionary Acts theory.

Penelitian ini berjudul “A Sociopragmatic Analysis on The Big Question of BBC News”. Penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode konten analisis. Penelitian ini berfokus pada fenomena pengunaan bahasa berdasarkan teori-teorinya. Ini membantu peneliti meneliti makna dari fenomena sosisal yang dialami masyarakat. Sumber data penelitian ini diperoleh dari The Big Question dari chanel BBC News di YouTube. Data ini dalam bentuk ujaran. Penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan sosiopragmatik untuk menganalisis latar belakang sosial dari pengujar dan makna dari ujaran pengujar melalui penggunaan bahasa yang mereka terapkan. Untuk menganalisis latar belakang sosial dari pengujar, peneliti menggunakan teori VARIES Model sedangkan untuk menganalisis makna dari ujaran pengujar, peneliti menggunakan teori ilokusi
